Beer Jobs: Three Ways to Build a Career in Beer

Beer Jobs: Three Ways to Build a Career in Beer

If you’d like to work in the Australian beer industry, there are some interesting opportunities around the country this week — and they demonstrate just how varied a career in beer can be.

Mountain Culture — Shift Brewer

Mountain Culture is looking for a Shift Brewer to join its production team in Emu Plains, NSW.

The brewery is seeking someone with commercial production brewing experience, with at least two years preferred.

For someone already working professionally in brewing, it’s an opportunity to join one of the country’s best-known modern beer producers.

Long Point Brewing — Brewer

Over in Western Australia, newly opened Long Point Brewing is already expanding its brewing team.

The Port Kennedy brewery only opened in July, but says its first month was busy enough to convince the team another brewer was required.

What’s particularly interesting is that this isn’t necessarily a position exclusively for an experienced professional.

Long Point says it’s willing to consider people who are new to brewing and prepared to learn, with training and mentorship available.

For somebody trying to get their first opportunity inside a commercial brewery, that’s worth noting.

The Local Taphouse — Head Chef

And then there’s a reminder that working in beer doesn’t necessarily mean making it.

Melbourne beer institution The Local Taphouse in St Kilda is searching for a Head Chef.

It’s a hospitality role rather than a brewing position, but that’s precisely the point.

The Australian beer industry needs far more than brewers.

It needs chefs, venue managers, salespeople, marketers, laboratory technicians, packaging crews, delivery drivers and hospitality professionals.

So if you’ve ever thought you’d like a career in beer but don’t fancy spending your days digging grain out of a mash tun, don’t give up on the idea.

There are plenty of other doors into the beer industry.

Sometimes literally through the front door of the pub.
