One of the biggest global craft beer stories this week has an Australian twist.
Canadian beverage company Tilray Brands has officially acquired BrewDog’s Australian operations, including the brewery in Brisbane and several bars around the country.
The deal follows Tilray’s purchase of key BrewDog assets in the UK earlier this month, as the once high-flying Scottish craft brewer went through a major restructuring.
In Australia, the acquisition includes BrewDog’s production facility in Brisbane plus venues in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
Tilray says the move gives them a strong base in Australia to expand their global beverage portfolio across the Asia-Pacific region.
For Aussie drinkers, the immediate impact should be minimal — BrewDog beers and venues are expected to continue operating while the new owners look to grow the brand in the region
