Exciting things are happening on the South Coast beer scene, with Mogwai Labs officially up and running in their brand-new yeast production facility in Port Kembla.
During a recent visit, Beerducator Nigel Ayling caught up with Josh Allen from Mogwai Labs to talk about the expansion and what it means for brewers.
The new facility significantly increases Mogwai Labs’ production capacity, allowing them to supply more brewers with high-quality liquid yeast — a key ingredient in crafting great beer.
Unlike dried yeast, liquid yeast offers brewers access to a much wider range of strains from around the world. This means more flexibility, more creativity, and ultimately, more diverse and flavourful beers.
“Liquid yeast is fresher, and with our extensive catalogue of strains, brewers can create whatever beer their heart desires,” Josh explained.
Mogwai Labs is also now part of the South Coast Ale Trail ecosystem, joining local producers like Ryefield Hops and Voyager Craft Malt. Together, they’re helping to create a true paddock-to-pint story right here on the South Coast, with brewers increasingly using locally sourced ingredients to produce standout beers.
It’s another big step forward for the region’s brewing industry — and great news for beer lovers who want to taste the difference local ingredients can make.
