One of Australia’s early craft beer pioneers has hit troubled waters.

Six String Brewing Company from the NSW Central Coast has entered voluntary administration after more than a decade in business.

Founded in 2012, Six String was part of the wave of breweries that helped establish craft beer on the Central Coast, building a loyal local following and becoming a familiar name in the region’s hospitality and tourism scene.

The brewery’s administrators say they are now assessing options for the business, with the goal of finding the best possible outcome for creditors, staff and stakeholders.

Unfortunately, Six String is far from alone.

Over the past few years, Australian breweries of all sizes have faced increasing pressure from rising production costs, higher excise, changing consumer habits and a more competitive market than ever before.
