The Independent Brewers Association has launched a brand-new membership category called “True Indie Supporter.”

The new initiative is designed for venues, retailers, sole traders and even individual beer lovers who want to actively support Australia’s independent brewing industry, but previously weren’t eligible to become IBA members.

According to the IBA, the move comes after strong feedback from people across the industry who wanted a way to show their support for independent beer and become more involved in the movement.

It’s also another sign the organisation is looking to broaden its reach beyond just breweries — recognising that independent beer survives because of the entire ecosystem around it, including bars, bottle shops, hospitality venues and passionate supporters.

The launch also comes at a positive time for the IBA, with the association reporting steady membership growth throughout the first half of 2026.

And in a market where independent breweries continue to face pressure from rising costs and increased competition, building stronger community support around truly independent beer could become more important than ever.
